A board level creative leader with over 25 years of experience, knowledge, and insight from leading world-class creative, digital and technology agencies. Producing everything from creative technology firsts to TV advertising. He is the founder of Few&Far, a creative studio for brands that need a modern approach to creativity. He is also the founder of Art&, a practice for using his experience to help agencies transform the shape of their creative proposition and structure. Through Art& Steven has held non-executive creative director positions for agencies and brands.
Biography
Steven joined Havas in 2014 and served as the Group Executive Creative Director of helia. Building the network's digital capabilities and driving the unity of creativity and data. He oversaw Dove's global digital creative for 3.5 years. As Chief Creative Officer of Feed he brought a culture of ideas to an agency that builds platforms. He held the position of European Digital Creative Director at FCB and was a partner in the independent digital agency Soup up to its successful acquisition. He has worked for agencies such as Poke, JWT, BBDO and We Are Social.
In the past few years he has masterminded a ground-breaking digital service for Dove, that scans the internet to highlight content containing negative beauty stereotypes for women and offer an alternative, positive perspective. He has also created the first film ever recorded from the reverse camera of a car for Peugeot. In two world first's, he hacked Apple’s FaceTime for Tarquin's Gin with robots and voice recognition to reinvent the bottle label and how consumers engage with makers and created 0101 the first ever beer brewed by data.
Steven was behind Dove's high profile Choose Beautiful digital campaign which received global plaudits, including a Silver Lion at Cannes in 2015 and a Clio Grand in 2016, and he scooped the Grand Jury Red Dot Award for Communication Design for Havas helia's new data-driven identity, recognised by Fast Company as one of the best re-brands of 2016. As well as collecting many awards for digital creativity and effectiveness throughout his 25 years in the industry, Steven has mentored lots of young creatives, volunteering at the School of Communication Arts and Hyper Island. He also organised the first ever life-drawing class for copywriters, Nibs Out. He has been a judge at major industry creative awards including D&AD New Blood Foreman; the Dadi Awards; The Drum Dream Awards; Creative Circle; Campaign Big; The Drum Roses; MAA Best; M&M Global; The Drum Creative Out of Home Awards.
He’s in the BIMA Hot 100, and appears in numerous industry publications, most recently as a regular contributor to AdAge. Steven sits on the BIMA (British Interactive Media Association) Creative Council and is a member of Innovation Social.
He spent time working in social care and mental health services. During that time he learned a lot about how people tick. Recently he also created a successful performance cycling business, and once made a living making didgeridoos…
Whilst he loves technology, the one thing he’s learned is that it cannot replace creativity and imagination. And as our industry rushes towards machine driven marketing, he aims to champion the beauty of serendipity and the warmth of humanity with the world changing capability of A.I. and technology.
