He brings over 20 years experience, knowledge and insight from leading creative, digital and technology agencies producing everything from creative technology firsts to TV advertising. Specialising in the transformation of agencies using creativity and technology.
Steven joined Havas in 2014 as helia's Group Executive Creative Director. His role is to build the network's capabilities, driving the unity of creativity and data, as well as overseeing Dove's global digital creative.
In the last year he has hacked Apple’s FaceTime with robots and voice recognition to reinvent the bottle label and how consumers engage with makers - a world first. Worked with Dove and Google to re-set the internet to care, made the first film recorded from the reverse camera of a car and created 0101 the first ever beer brewed by data.
He’s collected numerous awards for digital creativity and effectiveness. These include Cannes Silver and Bronze Lions in 2015 for Dove's Choose Beautiful campaign. A Grand Jury Red Dot award for Communication Design and a Communication Arts Design award for Havas helia's data driven identity. And five BIMA's along with two DMA winners, most recently for Southwestern Distillery and Simple.
He's also judged many of the industries awards including foreman for D&AD New Blood, Camapign Big, DADI, DMA’s, Creative Circle and the Drum DADI, Dream and Roses awards. He’s in the BIMA Hot 100, and appears in numerous industry publications.
An original member of the CANNT Festival, a member of Innovation Social and The Friday Club and recently created the first ever life-drawing class for copywriters, Nibs Out, he's deeply involved in the creative community. He also mentors young creatives through many initiatives, once returning from Hyper Island in Stockholm with eight students in tow.
Before Havas Steven held the position of European Digital Creative Director at FCB. He was responsible for developing the digital offering of the agency, winning and leading accounts such as Coca-Cola Europe, Biersdorf, Ebay and Valspar. Prior to this, he was a partner at Skive Group after they acquired Soup, a digital agency that he helped shape, grow and sell. Here he won and developed the Carlsberg global digital account, Sky, and as the digital partner for Innocent created their most talked about campaigns. In 2003 he joined Green Cathedral, a technical marketing company to develop their creative proposition, opening and growing their London operation. He was part of the management team that took Green Cathedral from 84 to 13 in the NMA Top 100 in a single year - an important measure back then - eventually selling to Golly Slater. His career has also included short stints at award winning agencies We Are Social and Poke.
Steven spent time in social care, working in the mental health services. During that time he learned more about how people tick than any amount of time spent in advertising. Recently he also created a successful performance cycling business, and once made a living making didgeridoos...
Whilst he loves technology, the one thing he’s learned is that it cannot replace imagination. And as our industry rushes towards data and programmatic he aims to champion the beauty of serendipity and the warmth of humanity with the world changing capability of data and technology.
